Southfield House lies literally within yards of the South West Coast Path, but also enjoys easy access to the lovely South Devon countryside, with the glorious wilderness of Dartmoor only a short distance away.
To the north of Stoke Fleming, the Coast Path links us to Dartmouth (about 4 miles away) - and then on to Berry Head and Brixham. To the south, Blackpool Sands is an easy walk of less than a mile, with the path then proceeding to the village of Strete, and on along the edge of Slapton Ley through the village of Torcross to Start Point, Prawle Point, and the lovely estuary town of Salcombe. Some sections of the path make for relatively easy walking, and some are more demanding - but all reward the walker with spectacular views of coast, sea, and countryside.
Dartmoor is less than an hours drive away, and provides magnificent walking country. The moor is significantly more varied than many people realize - with wooded valleys, sparkling rivers, ancient bridges, bronze age settlements, and one or two excellent hostelries thrown in for good measure!
For our guests we provide an information sheet outlining a series of walks with the starting point at our front gate; so no excuse for using the car! For those of our guests wanting to explore a little further afield, we can provide a little advice - based on our own experience and even more help in the form of guide books and maps. By prior arrangement we can sometimes arrange to pick guests up at the end of their day's walk - allowing a one-way route without the need to retrace steps, or worry about public transport.
In the (very unlikely...!) event of a little precipitation - we can provide overnight drying-out facilities for clothes and boots.
